Wub and friends

Here are some more pictures of the wub at school.
The wub has her eye on her friend's maraca.
She goes in closer...

and closer...

She gets her hand on it...

and even pushes.

Then the wub says "hello" to another friend.

They talk awhile.

Finally she spots her BFF-- the baby in the mirror!

The Wubberful World of Sitting

Recently, Frances' teacher Ann took some photos of her progress at school. The wub just learned how to sit up and she's so proud of herself.

She gets so excited that she flaps her arms to fly.
She loves to play the little piano.

Sweet potatoes are her favorite veggie. Look at her balance on her chair.

The other babies are so interested in the new "sitting up" wub.

Playing with friends is especially fun. The wub really likes the other babies.

Hair!

As seen most clearly during bath time, the wub is finally growing hair beyond the red peach fuzz that has covered her head until now.

the wub's crib

After months of sleeping in a cardboard box, Frances finally got a real crib courtesy of grandpa and grandma Bonsall.

Here is the wubitorium all finished. She has her crib and lots of books.

Here's her changing area, dresser, and coat pegs.

Here's the game room, complete with her much beloved exer-saucer.

She has her Pixar pictures collected by grandma Chatsworth over the windows.

The wubitorium is in between the office and mom and dad's bedroom.

She hasn't actually slept in the crib yet but she finds it a pretty fun play area.

It comes complete with a vintage 1970s busy box.

Wub (F*05 M*07)

Mom went to a yard sale and found a sweatshirt just the right size for the wub. Where else but Harvard could you find a Princeton sweatshirt for only $1?

Frances is so excited to show off her new threads. Princeton stuff works for her since her hair is more orange than crimson anyways.

This is Wuboween

The wub got to dress up for her first Halloween. Grandma Chatsworth sent this pumpkin elf costume. The wub's favorite part were the poofy shoes with hidden jingle bells. Lately she's been playing with (and eating) her feet and it's even more fun when they make noise. It was hard to take a picture where she wasn't grabbing for her feet.

We dressed her up as a skeleton. Her head is so white and bald she just needed a dab of makeup on her nose to complete the effect.

The wub wore her costume to school.

And so did her friend (and his mommy).

the wub at the lab

The wub went to the Harvard Laboratory for Developmental Studies, a few floors up from dad's office. At the lab psychologists basically use puppet shows to figure out what infants are thinking. The logic is that they show a skit several times until the baby gets bored, then vary the plot and see if the baby perks up. By inference, you can tell whether the baby realizes that the skits are different. (The line of research is described on the lab's site, as well as Pinker's How the Mind Works, and the documentary Human Baby).

Not only did the wub help some grad students add a case to their dissertations, but she laughed a few times at the performance, wherein a hand repeatedly chooses which objects to grab. (It's not exactly Mel Brooks, but it was amusing to an infant).

For her efforts she got a bunny wearing a tiny LDS t-shirt.

Unlike the puppet show, she got to take the bunny home to play with.
